Who would have thought about the fire inspector?
Our contractor met with the fire inspector & found out the space was not up to code. We are required to bring the space up to code increasing our build out costs. Suggestion - make sure to have the fire inspector walk through the space you may rent prior to signing a lease. We are very happy that the contractor is handling all the permits as they have an established relationship.

Our Optometry Startup
Welcome to our blog -
My husband Dr. Nathan Corbell and I, keep telling each other it would be so helpful to be able to share knowledge about starting an Optometry practice. My hope for this blog is to be able to network with other practice's about their start-up phase as well as, share best practices once you are up and running.

We have located our new practice in Scarborough, Maine next the main grocery store - Hannaford. The practice is within their shopping complex - a strip mall format. The name for the practice is Seacoast Vision Care ~ we live in Cape Elizabeth a coastal town located next to Scarborough. For Nathan and our family the ocean & beautiful beaches are our happy place hence the name and theme for the practice. We have some really exciting ideas about carrying our theme throughout the practice without making it seem like a dollar store. I will share these ideas and pictures in a later blog.
We decided on this location because of the demographics, large foot traffic available, a very respectable anchor store & lots of woman shoppers as they make the decisions on eye care. To ensure we had the best location, we also did a marketing study to review the area demographics. We looked for metrics showing a solid income base, families & a growing population.
Our target opening date is 3/1/12.
This week, we will be getting back the bids from the contractors. I will make sure to quickly fill you in on what has occurred prior to today in future blogs.
Many blessings,
Ruth Dodge Corbell
